Pupils at England Lane Academy learn the French language. Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures. It promotes children’s curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. In our curriculum, our children are exposed to French vocabulary from Key Stage 1 in order to begin building their understanding before they continue their journey in Key Stage 2.

Our aim is to ensure that our learners develop a good basic understanding of and love for the French language. We hope to give them the strong foundations for further foreign language learning at Key Stage 3 and beyond.

We enable our pupils to express their ideas in French by working on their speaking, listening and reading skills. We use songs, videos, games, books, stories and interactive activities to support and engage them. As children progress through Key Stage 2 they build on these skills and begin to write words, phrases and sentences in French.
